Ordiales elected next mayor of Hiawassee; council gets three new members

Liz Ordiales will be the next mayor of Hiawassee, after defeating mayoral candidate Barry Dearing in the Hiawassee Municipal Election on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Ordiales won the election with 212 votes to Dearing’s 91.

Patsy Owens defeated Incumbent Jay Chastain Jr. in the Council Post 2 race. She received 180 votes, and Chastain received 111.

Nancy Noblet defeated Ann Wedgwood to win the Hiawassee Special Election for Council Post 5. Noblet won 162 votes to 131 votes for Wedgwood.

Amy Barrett ran unopposed for Council Post 1, and she garnered 228 votes.

All totals reported here include votes cast by absentee mail-in ballot, and there were no outstanding provisional ballots.
